Independent · Roasting since 2016
Café Alba is a corner café and micro-roastery — single-origin espresso, cardamom buns baked at dawn, and a room full of morning light.
Open 6:30 AM. The regulars know: first pour of the roast goes to whoever's standing at the counter.
Alba started as a market stall with one grinder and a borrowed espresso machine. In 2016 the corner unit at 5th & Alba opened — 12 seats, a roaster older than the neighborhood, and a rule that breakfast baking starts at 4 AM so the room smells like cardamom by six.
The beans are still roasted 30 meters from where you sit, in batches small enough to name the farm on the bag.
“I've had the flat white in maybe a dozen cities and I still think about this one. The baristas remember your order by day two, which is either great service or mild surveillance — either way, perfect coffee.”
“The cardamom buns are worth setting an alarm for. By 10 AM they're gone and the regulars know why. Also — best natural light in the city for a slow read.”
“Their micro-roasts anchor our office subscription. Every bag names the farm and roast date, and it's genuinely the freshest coffee our team has ever had at their desks.”
We're a walk-in café by design — but the 12-seat room turns over fast, and there's counter service while you wait.
Yes — this week's roasts ship within the metro in a day, and nationwide within three. Subscriptions get the newest batch first.
Small batches Tuesday and Friday mornings; if you're in before 8 AM those days, you'll smell it before you see the menu.
Four bistro tables out front from April through October — first come, first served, and the dog treats are free.
Beans, bakes, and the first pour at 6:30 — see you there.
